Day 1 - They're Off!

Day 1
The early morning saw the gathering of 6 brave aviators and 2 (even braver) instructors. After the usual delays, we were airborne at 8:20am. Pristine weather prevailed with blue skies and light tailwinds. We arrived in Fargo to clear customs and were airborne soon after. The second leg put us south of the snow, to our delight. We landed in Chamberlain SD and about 15 degrees C. From Chamberlain we flew to North Platte, NE and then on to Hugoton KS, where we landed at night facing the brightest VASIS lights ever installed at an airport. Our first day concluded with a McDonalds supper (for most of us it was our first meal) and one of our pilots (named Andrew) being “harassed” by the locals. They sure are friendly in Kansas.
