Off for the Grand Canyon!
A swealtering 27 degrees Celcius greeted us as we assemled our aircraft for the flight towards the Grand Canyon. Many of us have developed tans and burns due to the wonderful weather in the Southwestern United States. The weather forecast is very nearly the same every day... Sun, Sun, and more Sun!
We had to spend some extra time in Vegas to do some maintenance, however, we managed to get airborne by shortly after lunch.
The Taxi time out of Los Vegas was incredible! Multitudes of aircraft were pouring into the airport, and at least an equal number were trying to get out. Although the controllers were doing a magnificent job, we had to wait quite some while before we were able to get out.
Once off, the radio work was intense! Airplanes were everywhere, and I can remember seeing at least SIX planes ripping around at one time!
The flight towards the Grand Canyon was astounding! We were able to overfly the Hoover Dam, and our flight path kept us just south of the special use airspace for the Canyon. The terrain was absolutely stunning!
We settled into the airport just shortly before sunset, with the Canyon all lit up in brilliant shades of Gold, Red, Green, and Brown. A quick ride into town, a supper, and we are now all set to go for a hike and other touristy stuff tomorrow!
