Pictures from the trip

Why?
A chance of a life time! All of the Providence students are Private Pilots who need to increase their flight time. A very long cross country (over 3000 miles or 10 times the required Commercial requirement) is a fantastic way to experience different terrain, controllers, airports, high altitude airports, and the decision making that can only come from being on your own. Along the way they will fly by Mount Rushmore, the Grand Canyon, some of the busiest airspace in the world, and undergo a transition of seasons from winter, to spring, and back to winter in the span of a week.

Texas in a day! Amazing!

After four somewhat frusterating days of waiting for an intense Colorado Low to move out of the Northern United States, we were finally able to get moving... And we certainly made the most of it!

We set out with a goal of achieving “Texas in a day” hoping for either Amarillo or Dalhart, and by golly, we did it! We took off from CKK7 at approximately 730AM... And we headed for Fargo, North Dakota to clear customs! A quick stop, (with free coffee and espresso!) and we were off for Broken Bow, Nebraska. (KBBW).

Broken Bow Nebraska was a fascinating airstrip, situated in a series of hills arranged in “saddle form.” Rolling hills and sand dunes cascaded around the airstrip, and we were treated to a magnificent visual display of terrain! After some more planning, pizza, and fueling, we were off on our way for Dalhart!

Quite possibly one of the highlights of the day was the total lunar eclipse that we were able to watch as the sun was setting over the magnificent Expanse of the Kansas Prairie.
The stars lit up one by one as the moon came out of the depths of the earth’s shadow, and a brilliant orange sunset ebbed away as the lights of the night started to take over! Amazing!

Although it took place well after 9AM, a hearty Texas dinner at a local diner capped of the day!

As of this writing, all eleven travelers are snuggled in a Best Western Hotel in Dalhart. We plan on being up and at 'em by 8AM... and our goal will be to reach Tucson, Arizona and UIM by late afternoon.

Stay Tuned!
