Providence Trip... Day Four

A good part of our morning was spent visiting the PAMI Air and space museum in Tucson, Arizona.

Arizona is known for its “bird bone” yards, yards where acres and acres of airplanes have been mothballed either for parts, scrapping, or perhaps an eventual return to service. The PAMI air and space museum has over 70 acres of aircraft parked all over and sprawling throughout the Arizona Desert.

Aviation enthusiasts are able to get close to and kick the tires of aircraft like the F-15, the B-52, (Truly massive close up!) and a wide assortment of other aircraft--including “AIr Force One!” Hangers are also specially designed and created with the Themes of “Space,” “WWII,” and “Early Flight.”

After returning to Ryan Field, we thanked our Hosts at UIM, and took off for our next destination, New Tribes Mission.

New Tribes is Located in McNeal, Arizona, quite Literally a stone’s throw from the Mexican Border. It is surrounded on all sides by mountains, and since we arrived just shortly before sunset, the surrounding mountains were all lit up with brilliant orange and yellow highlights.

Jeff Werley of NTM was there to greet us, and he made sure that our planes were taken good care of, placing all of them in some spare hanger space. He seemed to remember (Correctly!) One of the Providence groups that had come a number of years ago during a “Cold” spelll.... They had to scrape frost off of the aircraft before they could get airborne... He made sure that this was not going to happen to us!

Jeff made sure that we were well fed (a buffet was in progress) and then sent us off on a tour of the excellent facilities at NTM. A new Administrative office has been set in place, and of course, it seemed like at every turn through the hangars there were airplanes! (Isn’t this the way that it shuld be?) Jeff reviewed some of the specialized equipment that NTM has for rebulding and manufacturing equipment in the NTM facilities... They can make wings, stabilizers, seat belts, baggage pods, and anything else that might be required to keep a plane in operation! Amazing!

We will end up bunking with NTM tonight...

They have promised us a wonderful Breakfast... (Burritos!), some more fellowship time, and then head off towards Vegas in the early mornin'!

Stay tuned everyone!
