What we advertise, we deliver!

General Information

  • Experienced management. Since 1972 under the same management and owner.
  • Friendly atmosphere. Family owned and operated. You are known by your name...not a number.
  • Certificate, Diploma and Degree program with Providence College.
  • Certificate and Diploma with the Red River College Steinbach.
  • Harv's Air includes a flight school, air taxi service, and aircraft maintenance service. We understand the real world of aviation.
  • Modern, clean school facilities. Includes 5 briefing rooms, large classroom (built in audio/visual system), dispatch area, and pilot lounge. All climate controlled. Renovated and expanded in December 2001.
  • Accommodations available on the airport for 20  students.
  • Very competitive rates.
  • Our goal is to exceed the Transport Canada standards. Rememberto obtain a licence you have to obtain the standard, not just fly the hours.
  • We have the largest fleet of aircraft among flight training centres in the central Canada - when choosing a school, you want the aircraft and instructors available when you want to fly. Also we've got 6 different "types of airplanes" for more experience.
  • One stop shopping. All permits, licences, endorsements, ratings are available, including, taildraggers, multi IFR, and aerobatics.

Staff

  • Designated Flight Test Examiner's (DFTE) on staff for Recreational, Private, Commercial, Multi, and IFR. Having DFTE's on staff means no lengthy delays or scheduling problems conducting a flight test. ONLY School in central Canada with 3 DFTEs on staff.
  • You decide which flight instructor you would like to work with. Try a few instructors out in the beginning, then decide who you want to work with based on personality.
  • 4 Class I instructors, 5 Class II Instructors.
  • We hire only Harv's Air trained instructors and pilots.
  • Average instructor has 3 years of experience. Having air taxi, tail dragger, multi engine aircraft, and aerobatics allows an instructor to grow inside Harv's Air, thus students get experienced instructors.
  • Instructors are dedicated to teaching aviation. Students come first.

Airport

  • Privately owned and operated airport.
  • Training airplanes have priority at our airport. No waiting for traffic.
  • One runway. You will learn how to fly in crosswinds.
  • Real world conditions. Runway is 3000ft X 100ft (25ft pavement). New hire pilots will fly out of small unimproved runways...not large controlled airports.
  • Uncontrolled Airport (no control tower). 98% of airports in North America are uncontrolled, with close proximity to 3 controlled airports and their instrument approaches.
  • Practice area is all around the airport. No commute.
  • Aerobatic box above the airport.
  • No landing or handling fee.
  • Short taxiway. (remember flight students pay the same amount for taxing or flying...thus you want a short taxi to the runway.
  • 2 heated hangers.
  • Grass, pavement, and gravel experience.
  • 2 Stand alone GPS approaches (Spring 2004).

The Fleet

  • 7 Cessna 152's, 3 Cessna 172, 2 Citabria, 1 Piper Cherokee, 1 Piper Navajo, 1 Beechcraft Travel Air, 1 Pitts S2B.
    More information about our airplanes
  • Varity or airplanes for a variety of experience.
  • Few airplane scheduling problems.
  • All airplanes are well maintained, with excellent paint, interiors, and avionics including GPS.
  • Our aircraft are professionally maintained by our own maintenance facility.  We are large enough to employ our own maintenance staff dedicated to keeping the fleet available for its students and customers. Unlike other schools who may contract their maintenance, we do not have to wait for maintenance on our aircraft.
  • Owners/Managers that fly all aircraft's ensuring that snags will be fixed.
  • Financial Strength: Harv's Air owns vs. leases its fleet of aircraft and flight training devices. We are here for the long run.

Location

  • Steinbach is a small city (12,000 population) offering all conveniences and services, but still maintains a small town atmosphere.
  • 3 Controlled airports within 15 minutes. Winnipeg, St Andrews, Portage
  • Located 33 miles southeast of Winnipeg (city of 650,000 people), 35 miles north of the Canadian/American border, and 300 miles northwest Minneapolis, Minnesota.
  • Steinbach is right on the edge of the Canadian Shield. Experience with farmland and forest/lakes.
  • Wide variety of temperatures and climate conditions. About 320 good weather days a year.
  • Basically no restricted airspace, fly anywhere at anytime.
  • Cost of living very reasonable, best in Canada.
  • Statistics prove that southern Manitoba has excellent weather and terrain for conducting VFR Flight Training.
